As I sit here and think about this verse over and over I can’t help but be overwhelmed by his love. The section we are going to be looking at today is Ephesians 2 verses 4-10. Let’s start with verses 4 and 5. “But because of his great love for us, God who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions- it is by grace you have been saved.” WOW ! How strong and how powerful is that. It is because of Gods grace that we have been saved. It is because of his love for us that we have been saved. Transgressions refer to acts that go against a law, rule or code of conduct. So even in our darkest moments, we are alive because God has saved us. We are alive because of his grace. We are so undeserving of his love yet we are loved by him. We are forgiven of ALL sins.
Verses 6,7 and 8 read “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith —- and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God. I find myself reading those verses over and over again. It is hard to grasp the fact that we are loved and we were created by someone so amazing and full of love. God raised us up with Christ in order to show us the incomparable riches of his grace. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith.” Just let that sink in… “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith.” We don’t deserve it, and we did not earn it. But he loves us and because of his grace we have been saved. God gives us his love and his son, even though we have done nothing to earn it.
On that note, I want to pause and share with you another verse that shows just how much Christ loves us. Romans 5:8- But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” He died for us even though we were still sinners. He died for us to take away our sins. It is because of him we are Saved, because of him we are no longer slaves to fear. We are children of God. Because of him, we are beautifully and wonderfully made. And how great is it to be loved by someone full of so much grace.
Alright, back to the last section. The last two verses, verses 9 and 10 read.. “not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork,created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” We have great purpose here one earth, and each of us were created uniquely and beautifully. “We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works.” Our purpose here is to serve God and to share his grace and love with those around us. Be the light to others !
